One of the delights of building a custom home is creating spaces unique for you and your family! Increasingly we are seeing Games Rooms incorporated into the design of custom homes. Interestingly “Games Room” supports a variety of activities from pool tables and darts to sports to video gaming. To ensure a Games Room fully supports your activity, planning from design through finish stages is required.
Some of the Games Rooms we’ve seen include:
- Golf simulator
- Putting green
- Sports rooms: hockey, soccer, basketball, bowling, baseball,
- Batting cage
- Billiard table
- Dart Boards
- Archery
- Game tables: foosball, air hockey, table tennis, and more
- Video gaming
- Board games: chess, checkers, Parcheesi, Monopoly, and so on
- Card tables for bridge, mah-jong, poker and so on
- Arcade
To create the ultimate play experience, consider the following in your home design:
Foundation: Does the basement need to be deeper?
Framing: Do ceilings need to be higher? Window placement consideration Room size and door size (so the gaming equipment can be brought in!)
Electrical: Are special circuits or wires required? What are the lighting requirements? Are audio and video components required?
Walls: Is sound proofing required? Do walls need protection e.g. cork, high density polyethylene (HPDE) or other material?
HVAC: Is separate heating and cooling required? Are there special ventilation needs?
Flooring: Is heating required? Do floors need to be sprung? Durability and comfort considerations
Plumbing: Are waterlines required?
Cabinetry: Storage requirements for equipment, games, books, and accessories
Interior design: Is there a theme? What energy do you want to create for the space?
